Zendesk's price list starts at $19 per agent per month, and almost nobody pays that. A five-agent team that wants live chat and an AI agent, and has the AI resolve 300 conversations a month, pays $687.50 on annual seats with committed AI resolutions, or $895 on monthly seats with pay-as-you-go resolutions. The seats are $275 to $345 of that. The rest is the AI meter. This is the complete picture of Zendesk pricing in 2026: every plan, what each one includes, how the AI allowance works, every add-on we could price, and worked monthly totals for 3, 5 and 10 agents.

Everything here comes from Zendesk's pricing page and help center, checked October 21, 2026. Prices are in US dollars, before tax. Talvo, which makes a competing product, comes up in a few side-by-side comparisons and gets one section of its own near the end, with the gaps included. Zendesk changes these numbers often, so re-check anything that matters on the day you buy.

Zendesk pricing at a glance

Zendesk sells four plans, priced per agent per month, and the price depends on whether you pay annually or monthly.

PlanAnnual billing (per agent, per month)Monthly billing (per agent, per month)Annual savingWhat it adds
Support Team$19$2524%Email ticketing, macros, triggers and automations
Suite Team$55$6920.3%Messaging and live chat, social and business messaging, AI agents, AI knowledge base, Action Builder, telephony
Suite Professional$115$14922.8%Skills-based routing, SLAs, customer portal and forums, IVR, HIPAA enablement, data center location, custom reporting
Suite EnterpriseTalk to salesTalk to salesn/aIntelligent triage, auto assist, approvals, sandbox, custom agent roles

The pricing toggle advertises "20% off annual"; by our arithmetic the real discount is 20.3% to 24%. Third-party write-ups quote Enterprise at $169 annual and $219 monthly per agent, but Zendesk doesn't publish it, so treat that as unconfirmed.

There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial and a startup program, covered below.

Support Team is real ticketing and nothing else, for a team that has outgrown a shared mailbox but doesn't need chat. Suite Team is the first plan most small teams can use, and it quietly leaves out SLAs, skills-based routing and a customer portal, which many buyers assume come with a "Suite".

Suite Professional is where Zendesk becomes the product the reviews describe: SLAs, skills routing, the portal and forums, light agents and real reporting. It costs $115 or $149 per agent, more than double Suite Team. Enterprise adds intelligent triage, auto assist, approvals, a sandbox and custom roles, and gets 15 included AI resolutions per agent per month.

The AI meter: included resolutions, then $1.50 or $2.00

Zendesk bills its AI agents per "automated resolution," and this is the line that changes a small team's bill most.

Every plan includes a number of resolutions per agent per month: 5 on Support Team and Suite Team, 10 on Professional, 15 on Enterprise. Light agents don't count toward the allocation, and legacy Support plans include none. The pricing table's header adds a limit: "up to 10k per year". Here's what that means in practice.

  • The allowance is a yearly pool. Zendesk's help article says allocations are made for the year and expire annually or at the end of your subscription term. A 5-agent Suite Team plan gets 5 × 5 × 12 = 300 resolutions for the year, which averages to 25 a month. Unused resolutions don't carry into the next year. We read the pool as meaning you can use it unevenly during the year, but Zendesk doesn't spell that out, so our totals treat the allowance as a monthly average.
  • There's an account cap of 10,000 included resolutions a year. At 5 per agent per month that's 60 per agent per year, so the cap only bites above about 166 Suite Team agents, 83 on Professional (120 a year each) or 55 on Enterprise (180 a year each). For a small team it's irrelevant.
  • Beyond the allowance, a resolution costs $1.50 if you commit and $2.00 pay-as-you-go, on every plan. "Committed" means buying at least 100 in advance. Pay-as-you-go is billed as you use them.
  • Overage is billed monthly, whatever your subscription term. You can also choose to pause the AI agent when you hit the limit instead of paying overage.

Two consequences follow. The included amount is small: 25 a month for a five-person team. And the unit price is high enough that the AI line, not the seats, drives the invoice. For the 5-agent team above, 300 AI-resolved conversations a month is more than the whole annual seat bill.

What counts as a resolution

Since May 18, 2026, each AI-handled conversation lands in one of three tiers.

A verified resolution is one where an LLM reviews the transcript and confirms the AI resolved the customer's request. A contained resolution is one where the AI finished the conversation but it failed that verification. An assisted escalation is one where the AI helped and a human completed the job. Zendesk's resolution tiers article says the second and third "do not count against your resolution allowance," which implies only verified resolutions are charged, though the article never says so in one sentence. We treat that as inferred.

A conversation window decides when the clock stops: an email conversation ends 72 hours after the first email, a messaging conversation two hours after the first message by default (configurable up to 72), and a voice call at hangup.

This cuts both ways. If the inference holds, you aren't billed for answers Zendesk itself can't confirm were correct, which is stricter than most vendors. But you can't predict your count from the number of conversations the AI touched, because verification happens after the fact.

For comparison, Help Scout bills a single AI chat session resolved without a human at $0.75, and voids the charge if the customer escalates or presses "I still need help." Talvo bills a conversation the AI answered end to end from published articles with no teammate stepping in (its definition of an AI resolution), at $0.49 beyond the allowance, and never bills a hand-off. Our AI resolution pricing comparison puts all the major vendors' definitions side by side.

What 3, 5 and 10 agents actually pay

Seats first. These are the totals before any AI beyond the included allowance, for each plan.

AgentsSupport Team (annual / monthly)Suite Team (annual / monthly)Suite Professional (annual / monthly)
3$57 / $75$165 / $207$345 / $447
5$95 / $125$275 / $345$575 / $745
10$190 / $250$550 / $690$1,150 / $1,490

Now the AI. This is Suite Team with different monthly volumes of AI resolutions. The assumptions: every resolution is a verified one, the pool is used evenly, annual seats are paired with committed resolutions at $1.50, and monthly seats are paired with pay-as-you-go at $2.00. Extra resolutions each month are your volume minus 5 per agent.

Agents (included a month)AI resolutions a monthAnnual seats and committed ($1.50)Monthly seats and pay-as-you-go ($2.00)
3 (15)100165 + 85 × $1.50 = $292.50207 + 85 × $2.00 = $377
3 (15)300165 + 285 × $1.50 = $592.50207 + 285 × $2.00 = $777
3 (15)1,000165 + 985 × $1.50 = $1,642.50207 + 985 × $2.00 = $2,177
5 (25)100275 + 75 × $1.50 = $387.50345 + 75 × $2.00 = $495
5 (25)300275 + 275 × $1.50 = $687.50345 + 275 × $2.00 = $895
5 (25)1,000275 + 975 × $1.50 = $1,737.50345 + 975 × $2.00 = $2,295
10 (50)100550 + 50 × $1.50 = $625690 + 50 × $2.00 = $790
10 (50)300550 + 250 × $1.50 = $925690 + 250 × $2.00 = $1,190
10 (50)1,000550 + 950 × $1.50 = $1,975690 + 950 × $2.00 = $2,590

For a larger AI workload, 10 agents at 3,000 resolutions a month is $550 plus 2,950 × $1.50 = $4,975 on annual seats and committed resolutions, or $690 plus 2,950 × $2.00 = $6,590 on monthly seats and pay-as-you-go. The two pairings are how Zendesk's page reads. It doesn't say whether committed resolutions can be bought with monthly seats; if they can, the 5-agent, 300-resolution team on monthly seats would pay $345 plus $412.50, or $757.50, instead of $895.

If you need Suite Professional

Teams that need SLAs, skills routing, a portal or HIPAA enablement land here, with 10 resolutions per agent a month included. For 5 agents at 300 resolutions a month, that's $575 for seats, with 50 included, so 250 extra: $375 at $1.50 committed ($950 total) or $500 at $2.00 ($1,075 total). Add Copilot at $50 per agent per month on annual billing and the totals become $1,200 to $1,325. At 10 agents and 3,000 resolutions, Professional is $1,150 plus 2,900 × $1.50 = $5,500 before Copilot.

If fewer resolutions are verified than you expect

Everything above assumes Zendesk's check agrees with the AI on every resolution. If only 60% are verified, which is our assumption and not a Zendesk figure, the Suite Team totals fall to $412.50 / $537 for 3 agents and 300, $1,137.50 / $1,495 for 5 agents and 1,000, and $3,175 / $4,190 for 10 agents and 3,000 (annual-committed / monthly-PAYG). Lower, but still well above the seat price alone.

Estimate your own Zendesk bill

  1. Pick the plan by the featuresLive chat or the AI agent: Suite Team. SLAs, skills routing or a portal: Suite Professional. Email only: Support Team.
  2. Count seatsEvery human agent is billable; light agents are an add-on on Suite Team.
  3. Work out your yearly AI volumeTake the conversations your AI fully resolves in a typical month and multiply by 12. Verification appears to count only some of them, so this is an upper bound.
  4. Subtract the poolAgents × 5 × 12 on Team plans (agents × 10 × 12 on Professional). What's left is billable.
  5. Price the restMultiply by $1.50 if you commit to 100 or more ahead of time, $2.00 if you pay as you go. Divide by 12 for a monthly view and add the seats.

Add-ons that change the bill

Add-ons are where the second invoice hides. These are the ones Zendesk lists, with the price when Zendesk publishes one.

Add-onPriceNotes
Copilot$50 per agent per month, annual billingProfessional and above only. The monthly-billing price isn't published.
Workforce Engagement Bundle (workforce management and QA)$50 per agent per month, annual billing
Contact Center$83 per agent per month, annual billing
Quality Assurance on its ownNot publishedThe pricing table says "Requires QA add-on". One third-party analysis estimates about $35 per agent per month. Unconfirmed.
Advanced Data Privacy and ProtectionNot publishedSuite Enterprise and above. A third-party estimate is about $50 per agent per month. Unconfirmed.
Advanced ComplianceNot publishedNeeded before Zendesk will sign a HIPAA BAA
Data Center LocationNot publishedIncluded on Suite Professional per the table
SMS, local and toll-free numbers, voice minutesUsage-based, not published
Sunshine Conversations, extra users$50 per additional 2,500 monthly active users1,000 included on Professional
Premier support, services, extra API volume, sandbox, storage, extra WhatsApp numbersNot published

Two of these deserve a closer look. Copilot is sold only on Professional and above, so adding it to a Suite Team plan isn't an option, whatever some write-ups say. That means a Copilot seat is really $115 plus $50, or $165 per agent per month on annual billing: five agents with Copilot on Professional is $825 before AI. The second is the compliance stack. Data center location is included on Professional, but signing a HIPAA BAA also takes the Advanced Compliance add-on, which Zendesk doesn't price publicly. Plan on a sales call.

Zendesk also sells an "Advanced AI agents" tier, quoted through sales only.

Trials, the startup program and discounts

The 14-day trial gives you Suite Professional with Copilot on by default and "trial access to AI features". Trialing any other plan or add-on means contacting sales. There's no free plan.

The startup program covers Suite Professional plus Copilot for up to 50 agents. The page says "up to 2 years" free, but its FAQ gives a baseline of six months, with longer terms depending on partner VCs or accelerators. To qualify you must be a new Zendesk customer, under ten years old, funded up to Series B, and have 50 or fewer employees (up to 250 if a partner referred you). The page is inconsistent about bootstrapped companies, so ask before assuming either way.

We couldn't find an official Zendesk page for a nonprofit discount, and haven't seen a published percentage for multi-year or volume discounts, so any figure you hear is a negotiation.

How billing works: upgrades, downgrades and surprises

Zendesk subscriptions are month to month, annual or multi-year.

  • Upgrades can take effect immediately, and prorated charges typically apply.
  • Downgrades and seat reductions take effect at the next billing cycle, and Zendesk says there's no prorated refund for the unused time at the higher plan. In practice that means an annual customer who overbought seats pays for them until renewal.
  • Sales-assisted accounts may not be able to downgrade or cancel on their own; we haven't confirmed the exact wording, so check your contract.
  • Usage charges for Action Builder, App Builder and voice are billed on consumption beyond plan allowances. AI overage is billed monthly regardless of term.
Before you renew or downgrade Zendesk
  • Count how many agents actually log in; remove the rest before renewal, since reductions apply next cycle
  • Check whether any agent only needs email and could sit on Support Team or be a light agent
  • Look at how many AI resolutions you used this year against the yearly pool
  • Decide whether a committed block of 100 or more resolutions would beat pay-as-you-go at your volume
  • List every add-on on your invoice and ask what you'd lose by dropping each
  • Ask sales for any compliance add-on prices in writing before you need them

What buyers say about the bill

G2 and Capterra block automated fetches, so this comes from third-party write-ups, several by competitors. Treat it as directional.

The recurring complaint is complexity: a "high and complex pricing structure", QA, workforce management, Copilot and compliance sold separately, and an advertised entry price that doesn't include chat. A competitor-authored estimate says a bill can run 50% to 90% above list, but we couldn't find a primary source, so we don't rely on it.

The praise is just as consistent. Zendesk is a mature omnichannel ticketing system, it scales, and its ecosystem is large: roughly 4.3 on G2 from about 6,700 reviews and 4.4 on Capterra from about 4,000, per a Zendesk-ecosystem vendor's roundup. Those are the figures to hold against the price complaints.

Zendesk pricing
Where it's strong
  • Published per-agent prices, with an annual saving of 20% to 24%
  • AI resolution rate is public: $1.50 committed, $2.00 pay-as-you-go
  • As Zendesk's article reads, you pay only for verified resolutions, not every touched chat
  • Pause the AI at the allowance instead of paying overage
Watch out for
  • Support Team ($19) has no live chat; chat starts at $55 to $69 per agent
  • Included AI is only 5 resolutions per agent per month, as a yearly pool
  • Copilot, QA, workforce management and compliance are paid extras
  • Downgrades wait for renewal, with no prorated refund

When Zendesk is the right call

Zendesk earns its price when you need voice and IVR, a customer portal and forums, SLAs and skills-based routing across a larger team, more than 1,000 prebuilt apps, and compliance coverage such as SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, data residency in the US, EEA, UK and APAC, and a HIPAA BAA. For large support operations the bill is the cost of the capability.

It's less obviously right for a team of five that answers mostly through chat and email. That team pays for tiers it won't use and, once the AI starts working, for resolutions at $1.50 to $2.00 each.

The same team on Talvo, Help Scout and Crisp

Talvo makes a competing product, so here is the honest version. Take 5 agents with 300 AI resolutions a month, the same team priced above on Suite Team:

ToolMonthly bill for 5 agents, 300 AI resolutions
Zendesk Suite Team$687.50 (annual seats, committed) to $895 (monthly seats, pay-as-you-go)
Help Scout Standard$350 annual: 5 × $25 + 300 × $0.75. $375 monthly: 5 × $30 + 300 × $0.75. See Help Scout pricing
Crisp EssentialsAbout $95 to $100: Essentials covers 5 seats at $95, and 300 AI-handled conversations at Crisp's $0.05 to $0.10 estimate is $15 to $30, so $0 to $5 beyond the $25 of included credits. See Crisp pricing
Talvo$147 monthly (Starter $49 + 200 beyond the 100 included × $0.49), or $119 annual (Growth, with 500 included)

Talvo is cheapest because it charges per workspace and $0.49 per AI resolution. On Talvo's pricing page, plans are Starter ($49 a month, or $39 annually) with 5 teammates and 100 resolutions, Growth ($149 or $119) with 15 and 500, and Scale ($299 or $249) with 25 and 2,000. Teammates up to the limit never change the bill. Its AI agent answers only from your published articles, cites the one it used, and hands off to a human with the conversation intact when unsure; hand-offs are never billed.

Now the gaps, which are most of what Zendesk sells. Talvo is chat and email only: no phone, WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram or Messenger. It has no customer ticket portal, skills-based routing or custom objects. There's no SOC 2 report, SAML single sign-on, HIPAA support or data-region choice, and the integrations are a REST API, webhooks and Slack. It launched in 2026, is in beta, and has no reviews. Routing rules and first-response SLA policies exist, but they start on the Growth plan, and past 25 teammates you're in custom Enterprise pricing. The full head-to-head is in Talvo vs Zendesk (and Talvo vs Help Scout for the email-first rival), and nine other tools are priced for the same teams in Zendesk alternatives for small teams.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Zendesk cost per agent per month?

On annual billing, Support Team is $19, Suite Team is $55 and Suite Professional is $115 per agent per month. On monthly billing they are $25, $69 and $149. Suite Enterprise is quoted by sales. Support Team is email and ticketing only, so teams that want live chat start at Suite Team.

Does Zendesk have a free plan?

No. Zendesk offers a 14-day trial of Suite Professional with Copilot included, and a startup program that covers Suite Professional plus Copilot for up to 50 agents. The startup page headlines up to two years but its FAQ gives a baseline of six months, and eligibility rules apply.

How much does Zendesk charge per AI resolution?

Beyond the included allowance, an automated resolution costs $1.50 if you commit to 100 or more in advance and $2.00 pay-as-you-go, on every plan. Overage is billed monthly whatever your subscription term, and you can choose to pause the AI agent at the limit instead.

What counts as an automated resolution in Zendesk?

Since May 2026, Zendesk sorts AI-handled conversations into verified, contained and assisted-escalation outcomes. A verified resolution is one an LLM reviews and confirms the AI resolved, and it appears to be the only tier that draws on your allowance; contained and assisted ones do not count against it. Conversation windows end email chats 72 hours after the first email and messaging chats two hours after the first message by default.

Do Zendesk's included AI resolutions roll over?

Not past the year. The allowance of 5 resolutions per agent per month on Team plans, 10 on Professional and 15 on Enterprise is allocated as a yearly pool and expires annually or at the end of your subscription term. There is also a cap of 10,000 included resolutions per account per year.

Can I add Copilot to Zendesk Suite Team?

No. Zendesk sells Copilot at $50 per agent per month on annual billing as an add-on for Suite Professional and higher plans, so a Copilot seat on Professional is $165 per agent per month. Zendesk does not publish the monthly-billing price.

Is Zendesk Suite Team enough for a small business?

It covers live chat, messaging, AI agents and basic ticketing, which is enough for many small teams. It leaves out SLAs, skills-based routing, a customer portal and custom reporting, which start on Suite Professional at $115 to $149 per agent. The AI allowance is also small, so teams with real AI volume should budget for resolution charges.

Is Zendesk worth it for a 5-person team?

It can be if you need voice, a customer portal, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA or data residency, because few small-team tools offer them. If you mostly answer by chat and email, a 5-agent Suite Team with 300 AI resolutions a month costs about $687.50 to $895, and cheaper tools such as Help Scout, Crisp or Talvo cover that job for less.
